Light the World, the annual Christmas initiative sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, invites all people to celebrate the birth and life of Jesus Christ and follow in His footsteps by serving others and becoming instruments in His hands to Light the World with expressions of goodness, kindness, and love.

One component of the Light the World initiative is the unique red vending machine, appropriately called a Giving Machine. Over 100 cities around the world host a Giving Machine. These kiosks provide a fun and memorable way for the public to give to those in need. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all operational costs, ensuring that 100% of every donation goes to the selected nonprofit organization for item fulfillment.

A Giving Machine is a large, red vending machine. But unlike normal vending machines, the Giving Machine is not about getting, but giving. Instead of getting yourself a candy bar or soda, you can donate to local and global charities with the push of a button. With price points starting at just a few dollars, it’s an easy way for everyone to give this holiday season. Make giving your new holiday tradition!

Donors may choose to cover credit card fees. If not, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will cover them.

Visitors can purchase essential items ranging in price from $10 to $100, including staples such as clothing, meals, childcare essentials, livestock, life-changing hygiene items, & more. The Giving Machine accepts debit/credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express) via tap or swipe, as well as mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc).

Nonprofit organizations receive 100% of donations. They agree to use no more than 10% for administrative costs.

• 3.5 million meals will help feed the hungry. 700,000 students will be able to focus, instead of learning on an empty stomach.
• 500,000 children will receive life-saving vaccinations, protecting them from preventable diseases such as polio, measles, and tetanus.
• 350,000 months of menstrual hygiene care will help women and girls live with dignity.
• 109,000 chickens, goats, pigs, sheep, and beehives will provide reliable food and stable income for thousands of families and villagers.
• 108,000 children and adults will receive essential clothing, including shoes, socks, coats, everyday attire, and school uniforms.
• 97,000 books, school supplies, and technology resources will support education for tens of thousands of children.
• 40,000 hygiene kits, with items such as soap, deodorant, and toothpaste, will provide cleanliness and confidence to students, refugees, and shelter residents.
• 34,000 mothers will receive essential supplies to care for themselves and their newborns during the critical weeks after birth.
• 17,000 aspiring athletes will receive a soccer ball—giving them the chance to practice, play, and dream.
• 12,000 seniors, domestic violence survivors, and families facing hardship will obtain essential transportation.

Since the first Giving Machine appeared in 2017, approximately US$70 million has been donated through the initiative.
